Holy Names University (HNU) announces the appointment of Karl Solibakke, PhD, as Vice President for Finance and Administration. Solibakke joined HNU on July 1, 2015, replacing Stuart Koop who retired and who left HNU in excellent condition.
Prior to his appointment at HNU, Solibakke served for six years as the Chief Financial Officer of the College of Arts and Sciences, the largest of eleven academic divisions at Syracuse University. At Syracuse, he developed strategies for enhancing revenues, facilities, capital upgrades, and curricular innovations. In addition, he helped to expand the liberal arts core for undergraduates and initiate professional degree programs on the graduate level.
Solibakke’s background also includes strategic planning for the Division of Arts and Humanities at Heinrich-Heine-Universtität Düsseldorf where he provided counsel on fiscal and logistical matters pertaining to the restructuring of the division—necessitated by the sweeping educational reforms in Europe subsequent to the 1999 Bologna Agreement.
Solibakke has significant business experience, having served as Managing Director and CEO for Berlitz in Germany, which delivers language, cultural and executive training programs to private and professional clients worldwide.
President William J. Hynes, PhD, says, “Dr. Solibakke's distinctive expertise in private business and university administration, particularly as the CFO of the College of Arts and Sciences at Syracuse University, as well as his own significant academic scholarship and teaching, has prepared him extremely well to become our next VPFA.”
Solibakke states, “I welcome the opportunity to contribute to the promotion of Holy Names University’s educational and social mission. It is a pleasure join an institution that is the most diverse in the world and one of the most affordable universities for students of color in the U.S. I very much look forward to helping forge a strong and vital path for HNU in the twenty-first century.”
