Holy Names University welcomed alumni back to campus on Oct 19-20 for a momentous Homecoming. This year’s events were infused with the University’s 150th anniversary. Staff, faculty, and students joined alumni for a weekend of celebration.
The 45th Annual Alumni Awards Ceremony, held on Friday, October 19, opened Homecoming weekend by honoring the achievements of four outstanding HNU alumni:
Faculty Award recipient Marion Marshall. Marshall is a renowned and respected clinician and educator. In her 20 years at HNU she has inspired countless students to excel in their profession and make a difference in the world. She is a great leader and has made HNU’s educational therapy program a model for other programs nationwide.
Alumni Recognition Award: Service to the University recipient Carol Nicklas, SNJM ‘64. Sr. Carol is both an alumna and a retired employee of HNU (dean of students, 1976-1989). She has volunteered at HNU since 2009, lending her many talents, skills, and infectious humor and enthusiasm to the Advancement team, Campus Ministry, and numerous committees.
Alumni Recognition Award: Achievement in a Profession recipient Alison Bailey Streich ‘94, M.Ed. ‘00. Streich is a passionate educator. She has won many awards throughout her 24+ years teaching in Oakland. She is admired by students and colleagues for her kindness, positivity, and warmth.
Recent Graduate Award recipient Ashley Harrinauth ‘11, MA ’14, MBA ‘15. Harrinauth is a graduate of three HNU programs. She received her BA in Psychology in 2011 and then returned to complete an MA in Counseling Psychology and an MBA. Harrinauth is dedicated to her profession and committed to social justice and giving back to her community.
Saturday’s events began with a traditional Mass in McLean chapel, followed by a strawberry and champagne reception and alumni luncheon. After lunch, alumni took a stroll through campus and down memory lane with Sr. Carol Sellman on her traditional campus tour.
Music students, alumni and faculty performed a variety of instrumental and vocal works in a delightful afternoon concert to honor the SNJM 150th Anniversary. Homecoming events concluded on Saturday evening with an evening of beer tasting, music, and games hosted by HNU Athletics.
