Dean's Message
Known for our focus on urban education, social justice, and individual/community transformation, HNU's School of Education graduates are making a difference in the greater San Francisco Bay Area and beyond. Whether you pursue a master’s degree, certificate, or credential, an HNU education will bring you a new perspective, access to an experienced and diverse community of educators, and the tools to make you more effective and fulfilled in your work.

Our Mission
Our mission is to support and engage educators and researchers who view their work through a lens of equity. This is achieved in several distinct ways:
• Engaging in solidarity with both local and global struggle
• Engaging in issues of race, language, and power
• Supporting students in imagining and actualizing their passion
• Holding high expectations while offering deep personal support and mentoring that leads to high success rates within the various programs
• Providing transformative coaching of candidates in their specific field placement

Bay Area Teacher Training Institute Partnership
The Bay Area Teacher Training Institute (BATTI) has teamed up with Holy Names University’s School of Education to create a hands-on credentialing program where residents earn their Master’s degree and California Multiple Subject Teaching Credential over two years of close mentorship, relationship-building, and dynamic pedagogy.

Future public school teachers and current Catholic school employees may qualify for a 50% scholarship.
Mentorship
Credential students have bi-weekly in-class mentorship during the school year.

Graduates of HNU's education programs teaching in the Oakland Unified School District have tenures of five or more years.
