This course introduces the student to how forensic psychologists interface with the diverse treatment agencies in the civil/legal systems. Special topics include: treatment planning for recovery and relapse, emphasis on referrals and Health Literacy, group process, including inter-professional communication in integrative settings; and community identified best practices for treatment of substance abuse. Students will work in groups to present a research-based poster at the department poster session. Following thedepartment poster session, one group will be selected to present at the Forensic Mental Health Association of California Annual Conference. The research-based posters will be on the topics of: efficacy of psychological assessments on forensic populations, community identified best counseling practices for forensic populations with co-occurring disorders, evidence based practices used in correctional institutions, and psychopharmacological drugs used in correctional settings.
