Janos Horvath

Janos Horvath is an internationally known clinician who has given master classes in Hungary, Taiwan, Australia, Canada and the United States, including at West Chester University, New York University, Silver Lake College and the Liszt Academy’s Teacher Training Branch in Budapest Hungary.

Born and raised in Hungary, Mr. Horvath received his training in conducting and cello teaching at the Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest. He also studied cello at Boston University and orchestra conducting at the Monteux School in Hancock, Maine under Maestro Charles Bruck. He taught at the Kodály Institute in Wellesley Massachusetts and the New England Conservatory in Boston. In 1980, after emigrating from Hungary, he accepted an offer from the Hartt School of Music at the University of Hartford in Connecticut, where he was the director of the Kodaly Musical Training Institute.

Since August 2011 he is Visiting Associate Professor at Holy Names University in Oakland, California, where he conducts the Chamber Choir and teaches Conducting and Musicianship for the Kodaly teacher training program.
