Mitzi James Kincaid, MA
Professor Mitzi James Kincaid received her B.A. in Kinesiology/Physical Education from Westmont College in Santa Barbara, California where she played volleyball for the Warriors. In 2007, she completed a M.S. in Physical Education at Azusa Pacific University. Personally experiencing the mental challenges that can stand in the way of competing in sport, and seeing the same struggles within the athletes she coached, Mitzi returned to school to complete a M.A. in Sport Psychology from John F. Kennedy University in 2018. At JFKU she was fortunate to travel with Dr. Alison Pope-Rhodius to Medellin, Colombia to support her work with World Archery Americas, Continental Seminar on Mental Training. Currently, Mitzi is working on her Ph.D. in Psychology with an emphasis in Sport Psychology at Capella University, anticipating completion in 2021. Her dissertation is: The Described Experience of Gratitude Within Professional Athletes: A Generic Qualitative Study.

Mitzi is also an adjunct at Azusa Pacific University’s School of Behavioral and Applied Science Graduate Department since 2010. She has worked with Concordia University NCAA Athletes for the past 6 years and provides private athlete and business performance coaching through her business, Performance GRIT. Mitzi is in the process of completing her certification with the International Coaching Federation. Prior to COVID and political unrest, she had a sport camp for girls, Chica’s Fuertes, in San Juan Del Sur, Nicaragua, which she plans to continue in the future.
Prior to pursuing mental performance coaching, Mitzi was in public education for 19 years, coached elite club and high school volleyball. She also directed the movement education program for children at the YMCA in Laguna Niguel, CA.
In her spare time, Mitzi loves anything sport! She runs nature trails, running in ultras in the past from 32-100 milers. Mitzi also loves the ocean, travel, good food, and long dinners with friends and family. She resides in San Clemente, CA with her dog Mochi, and loves to spend time with her two adult children, their spouses, and their 4 energy filled toddlers!
