Ronnie Potts, LMFT

I have worked in mental health field since 1980. I have been employed by various agencies within the field of psychology for over the past 30 years. I have gain valuable experience working several different clinical setting. I have had the opportunity to work with a diverse population ranging acute inpatient population to the Department of Veterans Affairs working with addictions and combat related Post-traumatic Stress Disorder. I have several years of experience working in the Forensic mental health field which I feel is the most challenging field in psychology.

My personal areas of study and interest are developing and focusing on the recovery model in the mental health field. For me there is pleasure working with clients and assisting and aiding in their recovery. Seeing them regain their life again, since there no cure for mental illness but there is recovery.

Currently I am employed full time for Contra Costa County, Mental Health Forensic unit. I am primarily working with clients who were found incompetent to stand trial. The purpose to the position is to restore them to trial competency.

The reason why I chose to teach at Holy Name University, I felt Holy University is an excellent institution for higher learning with an excellent staff and student population. I felt this is opportunity for myself to share the years of information and experience with students who are interested in the field of Forensic Psychology.
