Fr. Salvatore Ragusa, SDS
Father Salvatore Ragusa, SDS, joined the HNU community in August, 2014, as co-director of Campus Ministry and as chaplain for the University.
Fr. Sal received both his bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in theological studies, with an emphasis on liturgy and sacraments, from the University of Saint Thomas in Houston, Texas. In 1976, he professed vows as a religious, and was ordained to the priesthood in 1988. He is a member of the Society of the Divine Savior, whose mission is to “proclaim the Savior by all ways and means.” Fr. Sal has served as a campus minister for 30 of his 32 years as a priest, first at UC Santa Barbara, and then for a year at Carthage College in Kenosha, Wisconsin. In 1992, he began his chaplaincy at Saint Mary’s College of California. During his twenty years of service at Saint Mary’s, his roles included director of campus ministry, director of liturgy and prayer, and resident director.
“I’m excited about being a part of the mission of the Holy Names Sisters and joining the campus ministry team,” Fr. Sal said. “I’m looking forward to serving the entire campus community—students, staff, faculty, and alumni.”
In addition to his passion for sacramental and pastoral ministry, Fr. Sal enjoys reading, cooking, the cultural arts, and sports. “I’m very much looking forward to cheering on the Hawks,” he said.
Fr. Sal lives in the chaplain’s apartment on campus.
