Dr. Kim Bowers named interim Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs
(Oakland CA – June 9, 2021) – Holy Names University is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Kim Bowers, former Dean of the School of Arts and Sciences, as Interim Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs. Bowers succeeds Dr. Sheila Smith McKoy, who stepped down at the end of May.
Dr. Bowers joined HNU as Dean in July of 2019 after having served as Chair of English, History, and Political Science at the University of Saint Francis in Indiana. As a member of HNU’s Academic Strategic Planning Task Force, she has been instrumental in both planning and implementing HNU’s academic and curricular blueprint.
Says Bowers, “During the last two years, I have been heartened by HNU’s efforts to revolutionize Academic Affairs. From decolonizing the curriculum to creating more internship opportunities for students, we are preparing our students to help create a more just world. I feel fortunate to step into this new role, working with such a wonderful group of faculty, staff, and students.”
Dr. Bowers holds an MA in Theatre Studies and a PhD in English. She began her role as HNU’s Interim Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs on June 1, 2021.
