Honored by the Oakland A's and Make-A-Wish

HNU Hawks Go to the Bay Area Ball Game and Support Fight Against Cancer

In honor of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, Oakland’s HNU student-athlete Jack Delmore and Charlie, a wish kid through Make-A-Wish Greater Bay Area, threw out the ceremonial first pitch at the Oakland Athletics game on September 7. The entire HNU Men’s Baseball team and many other community members were in attendance to show their support.

Jack Delmore, a baseball player and graduate student at HNU, was diagnosed with stage two non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma cancer last year. The experience inspired him to join the fight against cancer. Working with the Holy Names Hawks and his baseball coach, Esteban Contreras, Jack launched the Delly Drive and raised enough money to grant a wish through Make-A-Wish Greater Bay Area.

After the game, Jack and Charlie were interviewed by Brodie Brazil on NBC’s A’s Postgame Live:
