Lifting our Voices, Sharing our Stories

On September 14, HNU’s 142nd Convocation formally opened the academic year. During the ceremony this year’s theme was announced as Lifting our Voices, Sharing our Stories.

A moving Convocation speech was given by HNU alumna Tiana Davis Kara ’06. If you missed the live ceremony, a recording of her speech is now available.

Tiana is a culture catalyst who advocates for the advancement of systemically excluded people in the workplace. She is currently the Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging Lead at Nextdoor, strengthening its mission to cultivate a kinder world where everyone has a neighborhood they can rely on. She is furthering the development of an inclusive culture, amplifying the needs of the company’s diverse community, and ensuring equitable practices across the organization and platform. Tiana is a passionate champion for change who has gained experience working for notable non-profit and for-profit brands (Black Girls CODE, BUILT BY GIRLS, Verizon) leading the charge for representation in the tech industry.
