Holy Names University announces the appointment of Karl Solibakke, PhD, as Vice President for Finance and Administration. Solibakke joined HNU on July 1, 2015, replacing Stuart Koop who retired and who left HNU in excellent condition.

HNU Hosts Preview of San Francisco Opera’s <em>The Marriage of Figaro</em>HNU hosted a preview of the San Francisco Opera’s summer production of Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro on June 10 in the Valley Center for the Performing Arts Studio Theatre. The event included panelists Kip Cranna, PhD, dramaturg at the San Francisco Opera, Patrick Lloyd Hatcher, PhD, from the Japan Policy Research Institute, and Curt Pajer, Sergey Khalikulov, and Molly Wilson from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music.

The Islamic Networks Group Delivers Presentation About Muslims in American Society at HNU
Ameena Jandali, a representative from the Islamic Networks Group, visited HNU on June 18 to deliver a lecture entitled “Getting to Know American Muslims and Their Faith.” Professor Levi Checketts invited Jandali to campus to give the presentation to his World Wisdom Traditions summer course, and the lecture was also open to the public.

Profiles of Hope Campaign Video Now OnlineThe Profiles of Hope campaign, founded by Madeleine Horn ’15, highlights the stories of nine courageous women who are survivors of sexual assault. The full campaign video, which had its debut at HNU on April 20, is now available to view online.

Q&A With HNU Writer-In-Residence Belo Cipriani on Serving as a Grand Marshal in the SF Pride Parade
HNU’s Writer-In-Residence Belo Cipriani was named as one of the community grand marshals for the 45th San Francisco Pride parade, which was held on Sunday, June 28. He was the first blind man to serve as a grand marshal of the Pride parade. Cipriani took some time recently to answer a few questions about his experience.

Alumni Spotlight: Shelby Alvarez ’14Shelby Alvarez ’14 graduated from HNU with a degree in sports biology and she now works for TSH Physical Therapy as a Physical Therapy Aide Technician. Alvarez also recently made her first gift to HNU in support of the HNU Scholarship Fund.

On July 17, the NCAA Division II Membership Committee announced that Holy Names University has advanced into year three (provisional status) of the membership process for the 2015–16 academic year.

Bautista and Rosa Named ITA Scholar Athletes
On July 16, Mariel Bautista (Manila, Philippines) and Allison Rosa (Hanford, Calif.) were named Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Scholar Athletes for Division II women's tennis in 2015. For the first three seasons of the HNU women's tennis program, at least one Hawk received an ITA Scholar Athlete award. The 2015 season was the first in which multiple Hawks were honored as ITA Scholar Athletes.

HNU Announces Hiring of Siegfried Wroebel to Coach Golf ProgramsHoly Names University announces the hiring of Siegfried Wroebel as head coach for the university’s men’s and women’s golf teams. Most recently, Wroebel served as assistant coach for the men’s and women’s golf programs at Cal State East Bay, as both Pioneer teams reached the NCAA Regionals on multiple occasions during his time in Hayward.
