HNU professor Robert Lassalle-Klein, PhD, publishes spiritual writings
Professor Robert Lassalle-Klein, PhD, published Jon Sobrino: Spiritual Writings in December 2018 as part of the prestigious Modern Spiritual Masters Series by Orbis Books.
Lassalle-Klein wrote his dissertation on the Jesuit martyrs of El Salvador with Fr. Sobrino, and this research provided the foundation for his book, Blood and Ink: Ignacio Ellacuría, Jon Sobrino, and the Jesuit Martyrs of the University of Central America (Orbis 2014). In 2018, Lassalle-Klein flew to the University of Central America in San Salvador, where he presented Fr. Sobrino a copy of the book and the 2018 CRISPAZ Peace Award. The book is currently being translated into Spanish and will be published in 2019 by Sal Terrae and Grupo de Communicación Loyola.
The book jacket explains, “Jon Sobrino, a Jesuit priest in El Salvador, is one of the original voices of liberation theology and among the most influential and prophetic theologians in the church today … Sobrino’s work is deeply influenced by his relationship to Archbishop Romero and the martyrs of El Salvador, particularly his own Jesuit community, who were massacred in 1989. This collection of his spiritual writings, including many texts translated here for the first time, conveys a powerful understanding of the meaning of discipleship in terms of solidarity with the poor and rejected people of our world.”
