The Kodály Center celebrates 50 Years of Music Education

HNU Kodaly Center faculty, alumni, students, family, and friends, at 50 years of music education celebration

From July 11-13, the Kodály Center at Holy Names University culminated their 50 year anniversary with three days of music, learning, conversation, and community. The anniversary event brought together Kodály Center faculty, alumni, students, family, and friends to celebrate the Center’s 50 years of excellence in music education.

As part of the event festivities, Kitka, a renowned local women’s ensemble, performed folk music from Hungary and the surrounding Balkan countries. The performance honored the Kodály tradition of teaching music literacy through song. Kitka also has a special connection to the University—an HNU Kodály alumna, Lily Storm, MM ’12, is a member of the group.

In commemoration, the Kodály Center Advisory Board commissioned two choral works, which premiered at the closing concert on July 13, 2019, conducted by Dr. László Norbert Nemes. Judit Hartyányi led the Alumni and Friends Choir and Combined Choirs, including the final piece, Harmonia Mundi.
